Note:

I apologize for any poor English or writing. This comes directly from my prayer journal, and at 5am I am not always the best writer, nor do I catch all my mistakes. However, I think Mrs. Hausner, my highschool English teacher, would be glad that I am at least still writing.

Don't Miss What God is Saying

This morning I was reading John 13:31-38 and saw something I hadn't before - Peter apparently missing one of the most important things Jesus said.   Here is the text:
31 When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him. 32 If God is glorified in him,[a] God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.
33 “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
36 Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?”
Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”
37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!

Jesus is speaking and gives us a new commandment (Verse 34 & 35) - this is the equivalent to Moses receiving the 10 Commandments - HUGELY IMPORTANT!  And Peter seems to totally miss it (verse 36)!   Instead of understanding and reacting to this new commandment, Peter's mind is totally fixated on what Jesus said prior to the new commandment - that He was leaving.

How many times have I missed what God was saying to me - because my mind was preoccupied?

Lord, help me to always be attentive to Your word to me - help me to clearly understand the importance of what you are saying, even if it shakes my world!
